Are there club fees?

Yes, there are club fees. HRC requires an annual $400 fee for general club membership. Club membership entitles club members to use club rowing equipment depending on the rowers’ skill level. HRC requires a separate $400 annual fee for club members who’d like to store their rowing single inside of the boathouse (space permitting).

How do I join?

All prospective club members are evaluated before joining the club. If you are new we highly encourage at least (2) individual one-on-one lessons with a designated instructor. If you are an experienced rower there are other options.

Each lesson costs $75 and lasts 90 minutes. Each lesson includes rowing on the indoor erg and rowing on the water (weather permitting). Please contact hrc.presidency@outlook.com for more information or to schedule a lesson.

When can I row?

Once you’re an official member, you may row on weekends only from 7 am-9 am EST (unless stated otherwise such as bad weather). If you own your own boat, you can row during the week (once the park opens) - unless the boathouse is closed due to a tropical storm or hurricane.

Do experienced new members have to take the learn to row lessons?

Even with experience we highly encourage prospective members to take two (2) lessons before joining, regardless of skill level. This allows you to demonstrate your capabilities to the instructor, gives an overview of general boathouse operation, and also get feedback on how to test out for individual rowing. If you are very experienced you can always test out without taking the lessons.

Please contact hrc.presidency@outlook.com for more information or to schedule the test.

Does HRC allow Guest Rowing?

Guest rowers can row at HRC but are subject to a $25 fee per session. The guest rower must abide by all club rules (a hardcopy is posted inside the boathouse). The guest rower will be informed which shell they may row in.

What boats can I row?

HRC is primarily a sculling program and owns singles, doubles, and quads. The rower’s technical on the water skill determines which boat they may row in. The club’s president has created a spreadsheet indicating which club boats each member may row in. If the rower disagrees with which boats they’re allowed in, then the rower can schedule a sculling assessment in order to advance into other shells.
